DMAE serum

Hello,
I see that propylene glycol is an ingredient in the DMAE serum. Is that safe? That's in anti-freeze, isn't it? I know it's also in a lot of other consumers products too and I've read that it's toxicity is fairly low in the various uses...but there still is some toxicity, isn't there?

Thanks.
Cindy

Forum: Questions & Answers

Replicate Revitalift mask's tightening effect?

Hi, everyone!

First I want to say thank you to Hannah and Jonatan and all the other knowledgeable folks on this forum for their wonderful expertise through the years! However, even after searching the forums, I've only found one reference to the product in question.

My problem of late (I'm early 50's) has been bags under my eyes. While I know that in my case they are an indication of other problems I'm working on (e.g., too little sleep, too much junk food), I notice that the L'Oreal Revatalift masks do wonders for them. At least for a day or so. But I'll take that! :-)

I've not yet been able to find out whether the effects of regular applications are cumulative or not. And, naturally, I hear that L'Oreal has now discontinued the product.... In any case, I would like to recreate this tightening effect with Skin Actives ingredients. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Here's the list of ingredients listed on the side of the box:

water, glycerin, denatured alcohol, polysilicone-8, xanthan gum, panthenol, disodium EDTA, mica, CI77891/titanium dioxide, biosaccaride gum-1, sodium hydroxide, pisum sativum, pea extract, retinyl palmitate, polycaprolactone, methylparaben, phenoxyethanol, chlorphenesin, potassium sorbate, fragrance, benzyl salicylate, benzyl benzoate, linalool, hexyl cinnamal, limonene, citronellol, alph-isomehtylionone, butylphenyl methylpropional, geraniol, benzyl alcohol, F.I.L.#B9959/1

Forum: Questions & Answers

Argireline

Is the Argireline serum the only SAS product that contains the ingredient argireline (a.k.a. Acetyl hexapeptide-8 and formerly known as Acetyl hexapeptide-3)? I was told by someone that the Let's Make Collagen serum also contains it, but I don't see that listed in the ingredients deck for LMC (nor does it come up for any other product in a search).

Thanks!

Forum: Questions & Answers

3rd order of Actives, still confused.

So I just put in my 3rd order of actives and I must admit the first 2 were mostly ready-mades with some extras that turned my old lotions and creams into grainy concoctions. I was hoping I could tell you guys what I had, what was on the way and what I was hoping to accomplish and maybe get your insight?

Previously, I had the Aveeno Skin Brightening Moisturizer with SPF and added Niancinamide, Quercetin and Bearberry Extract to it. Same with my Olay Regenerist. They are now greenish yellow and work fine but I can't wait to order the SAS spf cream!

In my SAS stock I have:
No-nonsense cleanser
KGF Lash Serum
Bright I (with Vitamin K)
Let's Make Collagen
Mitochondrial Booster
CHAS Serum
Bearberry Extract
Quercetin
Jojoba Oil

On the way is:
Cellulite Control Cream (4 fl oz)
Lip Collagen Serum
Sea Kelp Bioferment (2 fl oz)
Fucoidan - Brown Alga (Phaeophyta) (5 gm)
UV Protection and Repair - 'Be Kind Rewind' Cream (2 fl oz)
Antioxidant Booster (0.5 fl oz)
Dermagen (natural matrixyl) with Hyaluronic Acid (10 ml)
Rose Hydrosol (8 oz)
Castor Oil (8 oz)
Avocado Oil (2 oz)
Olive Squalane (2 oz)
Rose Hip Seed CO2 Extract - Organic Certified (.5 oz)
CocoGlucoside Concentrate (2 oz)
Macadamia Nut Oil (4 oz)
Apricot Kernel Oil (4 oz)

Since I love the no-nonsense cleanser I wanted to make a bigger one for myself with all the oils and the light surfactant. How do you know how much of each oil to put? If I put 2 oz of the jojoba, apricot, macadamia, olive squalane and avocado with 4 oz of Castor oil, I would get 14 oz of pure oil; is the 2 oz of surfactant enough or too much? Should I put more castor oil? Jojoba oil?

I also wanted to make a toner/makeup setting spray with the rose water, dermagen and whatever else you guys think is appropriate. The spray I use now that I want to top has:
Deionized water
Sodium PCA
Sodium Hyaluronate
Cetrimonium Chloride
Collagen
Panthenol
Allantoin
Glycerine
Sodium Benzoate
Potassium Sorbate
Imidazolidinyl Urea

It does a great job but it's just too expensive... Any thoughts on what I could add to the rose water from what I have and/or other actives to supplement?

For night I wanted to put some Fucoidan in the Be Kind Rewind and I have no idea what I'm going to do with the Sea Kelp. As of now, I use the LMC and Mitochondrial Booster every other night, switching with Retin-A Micro but I'd rather use them before and after laser hair removal treatments (which are every 6 weeks so I "prep" and "recover" the week before and after).

I use CHAS in the morning underneath the Aveeno with SPF.

Is this all just too much? Sorry for such a long post, any and all help is appreciated.

Forum: Newbie Guides

EGF and Ascorbic Acid?

I was wondering if anybody would know this? Is it okay to use an Ascorbic Acid serum on my face and then after it soaks in and dries apply a layer of an EGF and/or KGF serum or cream on my face? I want to eventually incorporate an Ascorbic Acid serum into my regimen but I'm not sure where to fit it in if I'm using EGF and/or KGF. And I'd prefer to use Ascorbic Acid as my vitamin C.
Forum: Epidermal growth factor (EGF BT)

Advice for jowls, spider veins, surgical scars, por favor?

I'm a newbie to Skinactives, though I've made I think 3 orders so far. I'd love to get some feedback from you guys about my skin issues and what I'm using for them.

I'm 52, with fair Scots-Irish skin that freckles and burns, never tans. I love being outside, lived in high altitude New Mexico a lot, never tried to tan (impossible anyway) but got many a sunburn using what was available back then (Coppertone, Sea-n-Ski). I got on the sunscreen bandwagon way too late, about 15 years ago.

I've got eyelid wrinkles, sagging jowls, vertical upper lip lines, broken capillaries around the nose/chin/upper chest, orange peel skin on my forehead and nose, and actinic keratosis type sun damage I'd like to address. Also some thin red scars on my eyelids from upper blepharoplasty about 6 weeks ago. They're fully healed, just red and a little bumpy - normal for this stage of healing. We won't even mention the turkey neck :-)

About 6 weeks ago I started with Anti-Aging cream (used it up by now) on face, hands, chest, and Let's Make Collagen serum on my face, and after a week or two even my husband noticed that my skin was looking better overall - plumped up a bit, more lively, clearer, less dry.

During the day I now use:
LMC serum on face
Brite-I to the eye area with some liquid crystal mixed in
KGF on lash lines and brows (with dramatic success on my upper lashes!)
Mitochondrial cream cut with Canvas (it's very yellow on my skin full-strength - I'm pretty fair)
Sunscreen with SPF 15, 30, or 45, depending on whether I'll be outside much.

At night I'm using:
LMC serum on face
Be Kind Rewind and Mitochondrial cream (face, hands, chest, neck)
KGF to lashes and a bit on my scalp (would love to get some thickness back).

I'm totally impressed with KGF for lash growth. I have never in my life had lashes this long, not even in my teens. The ones in the outer corners are coming back too. Lowers are responsive at all yet though, nor brows.

My pores are getting less noticeable and the coarse orange peel skin is improved. My hands are much softer and the brown age spots may be starting to fade a bit; ditto for my upper chest.

Capillaries aren't responding to anything I'm using yet (6 weeks). Undereye wrinkles are deep and I don't expect miracles but they haven't really changed yet.

I think I could use more moisture, something for spider veins/capillaries, jowl sagging and lip lines, and maybe something to help smooth out/fade my new eyelid scars. Any advice would be much appreciated! I've read quite a bit from the entire forum on my issues, but I see that advice evolves as new actives and products come on board. Thanks for all your help.

Carrie
Forum: Questions & Answers

Home(yes,HOME) TCA/Jessner's Peels

Hannah,I must ask you this question.I was on another forum and it's members were discussing glycolic peels for use at home.Out of curiosity,I decided to take a look at the website. They discuss the normal glycolic and salicylic peels and then start discussing TCA/Jessner's peels for home use.Thinking they can't be serious,I read further.Sure enough, they discuss the intense pain, burning, frosting and horrendous peeling in sheets days later.Could they possibly be discussing the same peels performed by physicians, under IV/general anesthesia for home use? How can a company sell these products to the general public and is it illegal? Is there some authority I should report this to? As you may be able to tell,I am in complete shock and utter disbelief over this! If you need me to,I can give you information on the sellers(privately,of course).I am very interested in your take on this.Just to be absolutely clear,I would never, ever consider buying anything from them for any reason. I am just very concerned someone could be seriously hurt by this. Thanks,Cathy

Forum: Questions & Answers

But herbal advocates have long promoted extracts from the plant Calendula officinalis, also known as the marigold, as a substitute. The plant is known to have anti-inflammatory properties, and studies have found it effective for several skin conditions, particularly diaper rash and acne.
Tamarind Seed Extract

Here's a blurb I found about it. The extract is used for moisture similar to hyaluronic acid, I found them often used together in creams. Of course I can't find the study they refer to. This sounds like an interesting active:

"Tamarind Seed Extract - More powerful than Hyaluronic Acid. The Tamarind Tree originated in East Africa, but now grows mainly in India. It is cultivated in several different tropical countries particularly Southeast Asia. The fruit contain seeds with a high content of polysaccharides --mainly galactoxyloglycans. The active constituents of Tamarind Seed Extract are of great benefit in skin care. Studies have shown that Tamarind Seed Extract significantly improves skin elasticity, hydration and smoothness. In a recent study, Tamarind Seed Extract was found to outperform Hyalauronic Acid in skin moisturization and the smoothing of fine lines and wrinkles."
Forum: Suggest new actives here
