Thank you Rustie. The Monistat gel sounds good. Will try it!
Hi Hannah,
I will stop mixing the makeup with the sunscreen. Perhaps that's why I have sun-damaged spots.
Please tell me how to layer the following products. I am still not sure what is the best sequence to optimize the sunscreen's effectiveness.
Option 1: LMC, Skin Brightening cream (& Bright-I), Sunscreen, Monistate gel, makeup, powder.
Option 2: LMC, Skin Brightening cream (& Bright-I), Monistate, Sunscreen, makeup, powder.
Option 3: Sunscreen last, just before powder.
In addition, if my skin feels dry, would I add Dream cream before Monistat?
Thank you in advance for your help. I am trying to do the right things to erase the sun-damaged spots. At night, I use the BKRW and Mitochondrial (alternating nights), over LMC.
Best regards, Sylvia

Reply with quote | #14 | Hannah, You are SO right! I've never been tempted to even try Chantecaille's skincare products-- a look at the price and a read of the label is enough to stop me cold. That's why we are here on this website!
Also: when I've gone to Neiman Marcus with less rational friends to shop for cosmetics and skincare, I've had sales associates ask me (conspiratorially, when others are not listening) what I'm using on my skin after they find our how old I am (this happened recently with Sisley, their stuff is even more expensive than Chantecaille---like $200 for .5 oz of eye cream...and the salesperson wants to know what I'm using on my eyes so she can get that????) So why would I fall for their stuff when they are looking to ME for advice?
Actually, I think that nearly ALL the skincare lines in department stores started as makeup lines, and moved over into skincare when they found how lucrative it could be (Chantecaille was started by an employee of Estee Lauder, and we know how bad that skincare line is...) The european lines started as skincare, but many of them are now owned by conglomerates, who use their labs to cost reduce the products (eg Darphin's products have totally changed since the purchase by Estee Lauder).
Furthermore, I've often found that these department store lines start with one unique and exceptional product, then they try to create a whole line around that, and sell you on the idea that you really need the whole line to get the best results. Baloney! Anyway, the rest of Chantecaille's makeup line is nice but way overpriced (but if a lipstick or blush is the PERFECT color it might be worth it) and this Future Skin Foundation is their ONE truly great, unique product. It's the only thing I buy there.
It's nice to see that the counter sales people at Neiman are so helpful about mailing samples...that kind of service is worth something. But for most makeup lines, I find a place like Sephora, or Ulta is super, just because you can try everything, take home samples, and get a salesperson who has no incentive to push you to a particular line. That way you can pick and chose the best products for you from many lines.
Another tip for those shopping for makeup: Do NOT chose only by looking in the mirrors by the counter. Ask to take a mirror over by the door, or even outside, where there is natural light. You will see things in a different light (literally!) that way. Makeup colors, texture and finish look completely different in natural light, so if you spend any time in natural light, you'll want to check this effect. And if stuff looks natural in sunlight, you can always apply a little more for low light conditions and still look good. But the reverse is not true at all.

Here's the million dollar question .. exactly what are you using in your anti-aging protocol? I realize you must be using skin actives, but I am very interested what you are using and how. Have you posted this somewhere on this board before? Maybe I'm needing to kick this question back up to the regular skin actives discussion area? I would be forever in your debt if I could get to the same point you are in with your skin care regimen. Thanks for all of your help!! Rustie |

Reply with quote | #16 | Rustie, I didn't mean that to make it seem that there is any magic thing or routine...more that I disagree when cosmetic and skincare lines try to hype their latest "hope in a bottle". I think we'd be better off doing everything we can to stay healthy, and keep our skins clean and well-fed!
AM: SA Rosacea Serum + Lets Make Collagen + CHAS (layered) (I formerly used Skinceuticals various serums...they were really good, but really expensive) In the eye area, I use Bright-I to which I added some ELS to make it richer. Sometimes I'll add a layer of mitochondria cream over this. Then a protective layer for eyes: I still use Matis Eye & Lip Mask applied very very lightly as a "barrier layer" for extra protection. I discovered this years ago, and it just seems to work for me, I've used it for 8 or 10 years now. I think the barrier effect is as important as the actives I use.
For my neck, I'm currently using the 3 serums above + Dream Cream. I don't use any additional moisture or cream on my face, cause I don't think I need it, but if you are drier, you might. Just don't overdo it.
During the day, when I wash my hands, I'll sometimes give my skin another drink of any or all of the three of the AM serums, plus Tzone Serum on my TZone. (Another advantage of no makeup-- you can treat your skin during the day.)
I wash my face in the early evening, then do the same three serums again+ Dream Cream on neck & hands. Several hours later, before bed, I apply the Tazorac and reapply eye creams (the mitochondria, and/or one of the eye creams from 100% Pure--these smell divine) and a heavier layer of the Matis Eye & Lip Mask.

Reply with quote | #18 | Certainly not to be disrespectful to Hannah, but I did get all of that .. because of my subscription to getting responses to my threads by email.
I totally understand all that you said .. Dee, and agree.
Again .. LOT'S of great stuff! Thanks for taking the time to respond. I truly appreciate it. I just wish there was a way that we could communicate through email (if we so choose ..)
Anyway, sure hope everyone has a wonderful Friday!!

Reply with quote | #19 | BTW, there is a new forum specifically about makeup for over 40, it's a spinoff of the makeupalley.com community talk-- it's called thetimelessbeauty.com. Users there said that 98% of the makeup talk was for kids, so they started their own board! Might be useful for ongoing makeup discussion for those of us who have reached a "certain age". No product affiliations at all, and no advertising (at least right now).
Rustie: let me know what you discover on your trials! And feel free to send me a yahoo anytime! |

Reply with quote | #20 | Stila makes my favorite eye shadow and this summer they released an $18 packet with trial sizes of their foundation. I think you get four and a primer. They're small but I've been using them for months and have a lot of product left. It might be a nice way to try a few different coverages. They're at department stores but I got mine a Sephora. __________________ “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and it may be necessary from time to time to give a stupid or misinformed beholder a black eye.” --Miss Piggy |
