Avalon Organics is just O.K., don't expect to find something in it worth the price. Trader Joe's own brand is much better value for money.

One example:
Certified Organic Lavender Hydrosol (Lavandula Officinalis) and Certified Organic Saw Palmetto (Sarenoa Serrulata) and Aloe Barbadensis, Sodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate and Cocamidopropyl Betaine (from Coconut), Certified Organic Wheat Protein (Triticum Aestivum), Biotin and Niacin (Vitamin B Complex), Certified Organic Jojoba Oil (Simmondsia Chinensis), Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5), Vegetable Glycerin, Zinc Gluconate, Citric Acid, Methyl/Propylparabens, Grapefruit Seed Extract (Citrus Grandis) and pure essential oils.

The important stuff here are the surfactants, the rest is fluff. And saying that the surfactant has been synthesizes using coconut does obscure the fact that, once you tamper with the structure of a molecule, it is no longer what it was. There is not such a thing as "coconut soul" that is still present in the cocamidopropyl betaine. Using hydrosol instead of distilled water is another trick to "baptize" a product as orgamic.

At least they are honest that a good preservative (parabens) is needed to make their product safe, other manufacturers are not that honest.

My hair started falling out big-time about 7 years ago, probably as a result of stress.  My hair came out in handfuls in the shower, and every single day there was a pile of hair on the bathroom floor.  My hair is normally very thick and wavy, and about mid-back length.  Once all this started, I noticed a definite decrease in the overall thickness and I had bald patches on the top and in the front.  PRETTY, huh?!

I started adding Sea Kelp to my shampoo about 2 years ago, and then switched to all SLS free products (I now alternate between Ojon, Avalon Organics and Trader Joe's).  I added at least 1 cc of Sea Kelp per ounce of shampoo, no matter what the brand.  I also started using Sea Kelp as a styling gel.  I noticed within a week that there was much less hair coming out in the shower.  Keep in mind, this was long before Hannah started selling the KGF serum.

I've been using the KGF serum nightly for almost a year, and the hair in the front has grown back in, and my hairline is completely filled in with no bald patches.  All this is just from the addition of Sea Kelp, KGF serum and much more gentle shampoos.  I've never used Rogaine or anything like that.

My husband uses the KGF serum each night, and in the past year, his hair has filled in over the top - the whole scalp is now covered with a fine layer of hair where previously there had only been skin.  Overall, his hair grows faster, too.  His MPB will never be cured, but his hair absolutely looks fuller, and there's definitely more of it!

And recently, I noticed my daughter's hairline was thinning and her bangs were literally breaking off at the scalpe.  I switched her shampoo and added Sea Kelp, and she uses plain Sea Kelp for styling.  Her bangs have completely grown in and her hair looks amazing - thick and full and super-shiny.

Anyway, that's our experience.  I am completely addicted to the Sea Kelp and KGF serum!!  I also have been using the Brow serum all around my eyes, and my lashes look "fake" again (like they used to 20 years ago!).   Happy Happy Joy Joy!!

Hi Tabetha;
I'm wondering if you add your seakelp directly to the full bottle of shampoo or if you add seakelp to your palm when applying shampoo?

Hannah;
I have the J/A/S/O/N brand of shampoo and conditioner...I couldn't stand the smell of the Avalon brand and, sadly, we have no Trader Joe's in Canada.

Can you advise on the ingredients?

Purified Water, Marigold flower extract*, chamomile flower extract*, aloe vera gel*, sea kelp/algae extract, cocamidopropyl betaine, awuphi extract, cocamidoprpyl hydroxysultaine, plumeria flower extract, sodium lauroamphoatate, kukui nut oil, orchid flower extract, vegetable glycerin, tocopherol (Vit E), lavender extract*, Ascorbic Acid (Vit C), Retinyl palmitate (Vit A), polyquarternium-7, decyl glucoside, oxybenzone, hydrolized wheat protein, planthenol-3, cyclopentasiloxane (and) dimethicone, grapefruit seed extract, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, fragrance oil blend *Certified Organic

Thanks for your help,
Cindy

The important thing is that it contains only mild surfactants: cocamidopropyl betaine,  cocamidoprpyl hydroxysultaine, sodium lauroamphoatate. The rest does not matter.

Cindy:

I added sea kelp directly to my last shampoo bottle.  However I do not think I distributed it well at all.  It must have settled to the bottom because I just finished the bottle (happens to be Avalon brand from TJ's) and the last bit came out in chunks, like sea kelp thick chunks if you know what I mean.  So I added SKB again to my newest bottle but I shake shake shake the bottle before applying it to my hair now.

Hi Cindy!

I apply the Sea Kelp directly to the bottle of shampoo and shake like crazy until blended which takes about 1-2 full minutes.  The shampoo turns cloudy and is a bit thinner with the Sea Kelp added for some reason (still foams, though!).

Dr. Hannah,
I learned that you and your team are working on a better version of your shampoo and so in the meantime, I was wondering if you could advise on how I can make my own using your actives.  My main concerns are hair loss and weakness. Their main claim is that many of their actives block DHT to prevent further hair loss and repair the hair follicles. (I use your sea kelp religiously as my leave in conditioner as well as juiced aloe vera after I shampoo and I have already seen vast improvement but still have a ways to go to reclaim my once beautiful, strong hair).  The shampoo that I currently use is very, very good but extremely expensive and quite honestly, I'd like to buy as much of all my beauty products in one place and just be done with it.    These are the ingredients -

Deionized Water, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate (From Coconut), Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate (From Coconut), Cocamide MIPA (From Coconut), Cocamidopropyl Betaine (From Coconut), Lauryl Glucoside (From Coconut), EGDS, Decyl Glucoside (From Coconut), Cymbopogon Schoenanthus (Lemongrass) Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Apigenin (Plant Based), Pyrus Malus (Apple) Cider Vinegar, Arginine (Amino Acid), Benzophenone-4, Biotin, Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1 (Biotin), Caffeine, Camellia Sinesis (Green Tea) Extract, Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3), Glycerin, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Germ Extract, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Lactic Acid (From Milk), Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Octyldodecanol (Emollient), Oleanolic Acid (From Olive Leaves), Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Butylene Glycol (Conditioner), PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, PG-26-Buteth-26 (Conditioner), Phytic Acid (Plant Based), Polyquaternium-7 (Anti-Static), Propanediol (Vegetable Derived), Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Extract, Fragrance (Parfum), Serenoa Serrulata (Saw Palmetto), Acid, Caprylyl Glycol (From Fatty Acid), Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate (Vegetable Based), Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C), Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E), Silk Amino Acids, Caviar Extract.

Your help is greatly appreciated!!!

Don't get fooled by the "from coconut". This language is used to make people think that something is "natural" when it is actually synthetic.

Let's see:
Water, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate , Sodium Lauroyl Methyl Isethionate , Cocamide MIPA , Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Lauryl Glucoside, glycol distearate, Decyl Glucoside, Lemongrass Extract, Aloe Leaf Juice, Apigenin, Apple Cider Vinegar, Arginine, Benzophenone-4, Biotin, Biotinoyl Tripeptide-1, Caffeine,  Green Tea Extract, Cholecalciferol, Glycerin, Soybean Germ Extract, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Lactic Acid , Tea Tree Leaf Oil, Octyldodecanol, Oleanolic Acid, Panthenol, Butylene Glycol, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Avocado Oil, PG-26-Buteth-26, Phytic Acid, Polyquaternium-7, Propanediol, Retinyl Palmitate, Jojoba Seed Oil, Wheat Germ Extract, Fragrance, Saw Palmetto extract, Acid  (?????), Caprylyl Glycol, Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Tocopherol Acetate, Silk Amino Acids, Caviar Extract.

Nothing special, a detergent solution with some fragrances and essential oils that could irritate the scalp.

You are better off with some children shampoo.
